* Book Fairs:  Responsibilities involve coordinating two (2) one week long Book Fairs per year, which involves copying and distributing promotional flyers to the Teachers Mailboxes; recruiting and scheduling PTA Member Volunteers to work at the Book Fairs; set-up; tallying the monies; and clean-up.  The proceeds help fund the “Reading Contest” and “Reading is Fundamental (RIF)” Programs and the Benson Hill Elementary Library.  The first Book Fair is usually held in October/November during Parent-Teacher Conference Week, and the second Book Fair is usually held in April/May.

* Carnival:  Responsibilities involve coordinating a Carnival in the Spring, which involves recruiting PTA Member Volunteers and other Volunteers to work at the Carnival; copying and distributing promotional flyers to the Teachers Mailboxes; ordering Food, Beverages, Concession items and Prizes; set-up; tallying the monies; and clean-up.

* Dance Night:  Responsibilities involve coordinating Dance Night in early March, which involves recruiting PTA Member Volunteers to work at the Dance Night; copying and distributing promotional flyers to the Teachers Mailboxes; ordering Food, Beverages, Concession items; soliciting bake sale items; set-up, tallying the monies; and clean-up.

* Family Nights:  Responsibilities involve coordinate Family Nights throughout the year at Chuck E. Cheese, The Bouncy Place, McDonalds, and other places as approved by the Board of Directors. Includes copying and distributing promotional flyers to the Teachers Mailboxes; and tallying the monies. There is approximately 6-8 Family Nights throughout the year.

* Fall Fundraiser:  Responsibilities involve working directly with a Gift & Gift Wrap Company. Includes preparing and distributing the Fall Fundraiser envelopes, tallying the orders/monies, sending the orders, distribution of the products and any other action deemed necessary to make the Fundraiser a success.  The Fall Fundraiser is one of the major fundraisers of the PTA, and is held usually in September/October, with distribution of products usually done in November.

* Financial Review:  Responsibilities involve ensuring that the financial records of the Benson Hill Elementary PTA are in compliance to the recommendations of the Washington State PTA and to report the results of the Financial Review to the Board of Directors. Four-Six hours to review the books in early July and then makes recommendations to the Board of Directors whom then reports the proposed recommendations and changes to be made to the PTA General Membership.

* PTA Member Volunteer Awards:  Responsibilities involve providing nomination forms to the General PTA Membership to recommend outstanding volunteers for the PTA Member Volunteer Awards; reviewing the nominationss; purchasing a Gift Card and arranging the presentation of the award at the Volunteer Tea in the Spring.

* Hospitality:  Responsibilities involve providing Treats to the Teachers/Staff the second week of school; providing monthly Treats/Card to celebrate Teachers/Staff Birthdays; and coordinate the Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week in May.  Involves setup, soliciting food items for each of the events; and clean-up. Other committees may ask the Hospitality Committee to assist them with treats/beverages for their programs/events.

* Ice Cream\Popcicle Socials:  Responsibilities involve ordering, recruiting PTA Member Volunteers to work at the Ice Cream/Popcicle Socials; set-up, distribution of ice cream/popsicles; and clean up; .  The Ice Cream/Popcicle Social is held in conjunction with the school’s Welcome Back to School, Open Houses for Kindergarten-3rd Grades and 4th-5th Grades Science Fair in May.

* Identification Tags:  Responsibilities involve working directly with a Identification Tag Company, preparing and distributing order forms, tallying the orders, sending the orders, and distribution of the products.  This is done once a year usually in the Fall.

* Labels:  Responsibilities involve promoting the saving of Campbell’s Labels for Education. Includes trimming the labels that are dropped off at the school's Main Office; bundling the labels per the manufacturers' guidelines; and choosing the catalog rewards as approved by the Board of Directors. This is performed quarterly.

* Legislative:  Responsibilities involve informing the Benson Hill Elementary School Community on legislation that affects children; surveying the school’s population concerning topics as noted by the Washington State PTA; sending a representative to the Legislative Assembly usually held in October; and any other duties that may be required to keep the Benson Hill Elementary School Community aware of legislative issues.

* Membership:  Responsibilities involve promoting the benefit of being a member of the PTA and providing year-round opportunities for people to join our PTA.  Also involves coordinating the main membership drive in September through distribution of membership forms; tallying membership fees; preparing the membership roster list; Verifying that when voting occurs that voters are paid/registered PTA Members. This is performed quarterly.

* Newsletters:  Responsibilities involve gathering and preparing data for publication; having the Board of Directors review and approve, copying the Newsletters and distributing to the Teacher's mailboxes once a month; and forwarding the newsletters to the Website Chairperson for inclusion on the Benson Hill Elementary PTA website.

* Nominating:  Responsibilities involve are to recognize and recruit the most qualified people for the Executive Officers for the next school year. Nominations are usually held by March with ElecutiveOfficers elected by April 30th per the Washington State PTA Uniform Bylaws. The Nominating Committee also must make its report to the General Membership 15 days prior to the election and all candidates nominated must have been a PTA member at least 30 days prior to election to run. Only PTA Members can vote for the Executive Officers. NOTE: Nomination Committee PTA Members are "elected" at the General Membership Meeting usually held in the Fall.

* Popcorn Sales:  Responsibilities involve selling Popcorn once a week during the three school lunch periods; setup popcorn machine, prepare popcorn; tallying monies; ordering supplies; and clean up of the popcorn machine.

* Reading Program:  Responsibilities involve coordinating and promoting a reading program once a year and is usually held late winter to early spring. Includes copying and distributing promotional flyers to the Teachers Mailboxes; recruiting Volunteers to collect reading minutes results; ordering and distribution of prizes.

* Reading is Fundamental (RIF) Program:  Responsibilities involve selecting and distributing age appropriate books to all students at Benson Hill Elementary.  There are three (3) distributions per year, which are usually held in conjunction with the “Reading Incentive Program” in the latter part of the school year.

* Recycling Ink Cartridges:  Responsibilities involve working with a Recycling Compnay to recycle laser, printer and fax cartridges that are droppped off at the school's Main Office. This is performed monthly.

* Reflections Art Program:  Responsibilities involve coordinating the “Reflections Art Program” as determined by the local/council/state/national guidelines.  Reflections is an arts program contest that is sponsored by the National PTA. There is a training session sponsored by the Renton PTSA Council, which is held in the Fall and occurs once a year. For more information go to:  PTA Reflections

* Spring Fundraiser:  Responsibilities involve working directly with a Cookie Dough Company, preparing the Spring Fundraiser envelopes, tallying the monies/orders, sending the orders, distribution of products and any other action deemed necessary to make the Fundraiser a success.  The Spring Fundraiser is one of the major fundraisers of the PTA, and is held usually in April/May, with distribution of products usually done by June.

* Spirit Wear:  Responsibilities involve working directly with a Sweatshirts/T-Shirts/Pants Company, coordinating the sales of Sweatshirts/T-shirts/Pants; distribution of flyers and order forms; and tallying orders and monies, and distrubuting the Sweatshirts/T-Shirts/Pants. Sales are usually held in the Fall and Spring.

* Volunteer Resources:  Responsibilities involve gathering a list of school volunteers; coordinating volunteers when needed; Volunteer Training Session (use of copy machines, laminator, etc.) in conjunction with the school staff; updating a Volunteer Handbook and providing information as needed to all potential volunteers.
